What is Voltarol 1.16 Emulgel?

Voltarol 1.16% Emulgel is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) that is used to relieve pain and inflammation in the joints and muscles. It also contains a cooling agent which helps to soothe the skin and provide relief from any pain and inflammation. It is available with or without a prescription from pharmacies.

How Does Voltarol 1.16 Emulgel Work?

Voltarol 1.16% Emulgel is a topical gel that contains the active ingredient diclofenac. Diclofenac belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by reducing inflammation and pain in the affected area. When applied to the skin, Voltarol 1.16% Emulgel penetrates the tissue and decreases the production of inflammatory chemicals called prostaglandins. This leads to reduced inflammation and pain in the area where the gel is applied.

Warnings

  • Voltarol 1.16% Emulgel should not be used if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use Voltarol if you have ever reacted aspirin or any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
  • You must inform your doctor about your pregnancy or breastfeeding status before using Voltarol.
  • Do not use Voltarol 1.16% Emulgel on broken skin, and avoid contact with your eyes, nose, and mouth. If the gel does come into contact with any of these areas, rinse them thoroughly with water.
  • Talk to your doctor before using Voltarol if you are using other medications.

Directions

  • Voltarol Emulgel is meant for external use.
  • Clean and dry the affected area before applying the gel.
  • Squeeze out a small amount of gel from the tube or press firmly and evenly on the dispenser's nozzle to apply to the painful or swollen region, then massage slowly into the skin.
  • Apply the gel 3 to 4 times a day with an interval of 4 hours between applications of the gel.
  • Wash your hands after applying the gel, unless you are treating them
  • If you are using this medication on a child, use only for diaper rash or for up to 6 weeks as directed by the doctor
  • Wash your hands after use unless your hands are the site being treated.

Ingredients

  • The active ingredients are diclofenac diethylammonium
  • The inactive Ingredients are carbomers, diethylamine, isopropyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, purified water, propylene glycol, cetomacrogol, perfume (containing benzyl benzoate), cocoyl caprylocaprate, among others.
