EMLA Cream 5%

Maximum Quantity Allowed:

As a local anaesthetic, Emla Cream is applied topically. Local anaesthetics help in numbing an area, minimising its ability to feel a sensation. It comprises two active ingredients, these are Prilocaine and Lidocaine. Emla Cream has various uses, among them acting as a prescription to help men who are suffering from premature ejaculation.

Description

Prilocaine and Lidocaine temporarily interrupt the pathway of signals on the nerves. By making it hard for specific chemicals to enter the nerve endings at the application site, Emla Cream prevents some signals from passing along the nerve fibres. In the end, the brain doesnt get these signals and hence cannot regard them as sensations.

Warnings

Avoid using EMLA Cream if:

  • You have anaemia
  • You suffer from a rare inherited illness that interferes with the blood called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency'.
  • You have an issue with the levels of blood pigment known as methaemoglobinaemia.
  • You have atopic dermatitis', a type of skin condition. This is due to the cream being applied to the skin for a shorter period.
