Elocon eczema Ointment is a steroid-based treatment for eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. The ointment deals with redness, itching, and sore skin on the scalp, associated with eczema. Elocon is a topical corticosteroid. This means it is applied to the skin to reduce inflammation. The ointment is recommended for application on crusty, dry, scaling and fissured lesions. Elocon lotions are better on moist skin.

What is Elocon Ointment?

Elocon Ointment is a potent topical corticosteroid used to relieve symptoms of inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. It contains mometasone furoate, which helps to reduce inflammation, redness, and itching on the skin. Ointments are typically used on dry, scaly areas of the skin, providing a barrier to lock in moisture.

How Does it Work?

Mometasone, the active ingredient in Elocon, works by suppressing the body's inflammatory response, reducing symptoms like redness, swelling, and itching. It is applied directly to the affected skin areas and is effective in managing flare-ups of skin conditions.

Warnings

Don't use Elon Ointment for more than five days. Avoid using the ointment if you meet any of the following conditions:

  • You have susceptible skin.
  • Do not cover any treated areas with bandages or plasters.
  • Avoid applying the lotion in significant quantities.
  • Do not use in or around the eyes, including eyelids.
  • Elocon is not recommended for children under the age of 2.

Directions

Follow instructions for use and consult with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns. 

  • Apply a small amount of Elon Ointment on your fingers.
  • Gently massage the skin until it disappears.
  • Use Elon Ointment once daily.
  • Ensure to follow the prescription and complete the entire course of treatment to prevent redness and itchy skin from reoccurring.

Ingredients

The active ingredient in Elocon is mometasone.

Elocon Ointment contains the inactive ingredients hexylene glycol, purified water; phosphoric acid; propylene glycol stearate; white beeswax; soft white paraffin.

Side Effects

Side effects when using the ointment are very minimal. If you experience any, they may include:

  • Allergic skin reactions.
  • Bacterial and secondary skin infections.
  • Acne.
  • Inflammation and infection of the hair follicles.
  • Thinning of the skin.
  • Red marks with associated prickly heat.
  • Loss of skin colour.
  • Burning.
