Scabies

Scabies is a contagious skin infestation caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. The common, pimple-like rash leads to intense itching, particularly at night. Scabies is highly infectious and can spread very quickly throughout the body, therefore it is important to get treatment as soon as possible. It is important to inform any partners that you have had sexual contact with in the past 8 weeks as they should also be treated. Treatment involves prescription creams or oral medications to kill the mites. All household members and close contacts should be treated simultaneously to prevent re-infestation.
